Pundit talk

[edit]

I'm removing this:

"Upon reaching the final of the snooker World Championship in 2000, former professional Willie Thorne said that he did not think Stevens was ready to go all the way, but that he would definitely be World Champion in the not too far off future. With Stevens being a player more suited to the long frame matches and, still only 30 years old, Thorne's prediction in 2000 may still come to be ."

It's dated and non-factual, and Mr One Tournament Win and Lost All His Money On Gambling is hardly a decent source for predictions and insight. 62.56.72.216 (talk) 22:43, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Performance

[edit]

Does anyone have any theories on why he has achieved so little in best-of-9 tournaments? Is it motivational? He doesn't seem to take time to hit form in longer matches. Is he as good as his career rankings suggest? [The previous unsigned comment was added by MartinUK (talk · contribs), 18:13, 2 May 2006 (UTC)][reply]

No theory to offer, but the last question doesn't parse. His career rankings are determined by his performance, so by definition he must be as good as his career rankings suggest. :-) — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 20:07, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

as stated above answers.com is a mirror of wikipedia. So infact the article on answers.com har been "ripped off" from wikipedia. --CrazyChip 12:46, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Article does still need work, but that should be a new topic. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 07:21, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lots of work needed

[edit]

Yes this article certaintly needs attention. He didn't first emerge in the 98 UK Champiosnhip he had in fact reached the semis the year before. Yes, big chunks of his career are missing so i'll work on it. Samasnookerfan (talk) 16:02, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nicky Stevens

[edit]

I see that Matthew is from Carmarthen - does anyone know if he's related to Nicky Stevens from pop group Brotherhood of Man - also from there.--Tuzapicabit (talk) 21:25, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Greatest underachiever additions and claims of World Championship win

[edit]

An anonymous editor is repeatedly adding that Stevens is the game's "greatest under-achiever" despuite me asking for a reference. While it is quite obvious he is an under-achiever, to say he is the 'greatest' is a subjective opinion. You will need a referenced quote from someone connected to the game if you want to include an opinions like that. Betty Logan (talk) 18:40, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

'Under-achiever' is subjective in itself, as it is based on assumptions as to what a person is capable of achieving. Something like "He reached the UK and World Championship finals early in his career, leading to predictions that he would win multiple ranking events and the top three of the rankings, which has not happened" might be better.--MartinUK (talk) 13:38, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I probably agree with the statement actually, but subjective statements need to be qualified as a point of view. For example, if the person could find a citation so the claim would read as something like as "Clive Everton and Dennis Taylor regard Stevens as the greatest underachiever ever" etc. It's similar as the greatest player claims that bug me when they pop up on Hendry's and Ronnie's pages. In this particular case without a qualified statement I would say something like "Stevens had considerable success early in his career winning two majors and reaching two world finals but has so far been unable to build on it". Betty Logan (talk) 14:06, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also, somebody is claiming that Stevens won the World Championship in 2005. As much as I wish it had happened, this information is false. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.251.198.16 (talk) 13:10, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is becoming quite a serious problem because it is spreading to other articles such as Shaun Murphy, the list of world champions etc. Armbrust as diligant as ever has swiftly caught it but I'm sure he would rather be adding results and building articles than tracking down mass vandalism. If it conitinues we will have to enquire about an IP range ban, but those are always undesirable because with dynamic IPs you are potentially going to block innocent editors.
